Reflecting on the Holiness of God
The Lord is majestic in holiness, far above the creation, unsurpassed in beauty, glory, and splendor.
“Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?” (Exodus 15:11)
As the Holy One, he is completely pure, unstained by sin, perfectly just and righteous in all his ways.
“His work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.” (Deuteronomy 32:4)
Because we are sinful in our very nature, the Lord’s holiness exposes our impurity and reveals that we have failed to be holy before the Lord.
“And I said: ‘Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, LORD of hosts!’” (Isaiah 6:5)
Silent prayer for confession of sin and trust in the gospel of Christ
But the Holy God has made a way for unholy people by sending his Holy, Righteous Son to be the sacrifice for sinners, so that we might be purified and made holy in Christ.
“And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him.” (Colossians 1:21-22)
